My globe has alignment problems, is this normal?Updated 10 months ago
Alignment issues occur during the production process and in many ways cannot be avoided. This occurs during the formation of the globe from a flat map to a sphere. Manufacturers acceptable tolerance for this is generally about 1/16th of an inch. In some cases this will cause place names, boundaries and longitude or latitude line to not fully align with each other. In most cases replacing the globe due to misalignment issues will not end up with these areas being better aligned on a different globe ball. Typically this is seen on craft board (cardboard) globes as illuminated globes use an acrylic or plastic globe ball for the lighting to shine through have a vinyl map stretched over the sphere. In this case there are typically no alignment issues in the north or south hemispheres of the globe.
